Childhood Tooth Decay
Many parents are aware of common childhood diseases, but tooth decay is not something that normally comes up in conversations about diseases. According to the Academy of General Dentistry, dental decay is the single most common chronic childhood disease in the United States…A common misconception is that “baby teeth are not needed” and that it doesn’t matter if the child loses a tooth before it comes out naturally. The primary teeth hold the space for the permanent teeth to erupt in the proper space; therefore if the tooth or teeth are lost too early, a metal space maintainer is required…
Halloween Aftermath
Just in time for Halloween, the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) issued a press release of the best and worst candy choices…Regardless of the type of candy you and your family indulge in, ensure that you maintain a proper oral health regimen that includes: brushing your teeth 3 times daily, using a fluoride mouthwash prior to bedtime, flossing between your teeth after eating candy and at least once a day.
From all of us at Whispering Pines Dental, we hope you are your family have a Happy Halloween!
Dental Implants
Do you have a missing tooth? A dental implant may be just what you need. Dental implants are a safe and effective way to replace a tooth or multiple teeth. The dental implant is a titanium post placed in the area of the missing tooth….the titanium post is placed in the proper area of the missing tooth. The surrounding jaw bone will heal and grow around the implant holding it in place….For many of our patients, an implant is the best permanent restorative option….

Scuba Diving and Your Teeth
Recently I’ve decided to tackle one of my own fears, scuba diving…Tooth squeeze occurs when air is trapped under a filling- from either a leaking filling or an area of decay. Additionally, it has also been known to occur with teeth that are fractured or a tooth that has had a root canal that has not been permanently restored with a dental crown. As a diver descends further and further under the water…
Start Off the School Year With a Healthy Smile
Proper oral hygiene often gets put on the back burner with all of the changes that are happening to the daily routine…Remind your kids to brush their teeth for 2 minutes at least twice a day using a toothpaste containing fluoride. The easiest way to know that they are brushing long enough is to set an egg timer on the sink and watch them brush away until it is done…make sure to get their teeth cleaned by a dental hygienist every six months. This combined with an oral exam from Dr. Pruneski will ensure that we detect any cavities that are starting as early as possible.
Care For Your Teeth Before Traveling Abroad
Many of my patients are planning fun and exciting trips all over the world…
Traveling abroad is full of new and unique experiences, and no one wants one of them to be a dental emergency. Here are a few tips in case you find yourself with a toothache in another country-
Have a dental exam a few weeks prior to your departure to ensure your teeth and gums are in good health.
Make sure to complete all dental work necessary before your trip. Teeth that need extracted or root canal therapy are especially important.
